Just another oops in a list of oopsies. But I really tried to post this on Thanksgiving day this past Monday (for all you non-Canucks). At 11:00 pm. Luckily, LJ saved a copy which I've modified slightly.

Happy Thanksgiving Day (to my Canadian LJ sibs). I'm finally sitting down (considering the excruciating state of my right foot, it's about time). Most of the dishes are done (yaay) and the tea and dessert dishes are soaking. But ... um ... how do I put this? I nearly had two conflagatory incidents tonight!!! But, luckily, my angels were REALLY looking out for me. So I learned my lesson without two much material damage. And, now, please, angels, do a career miracle for John.

But, on a happier note, this was my first bit of *proper* entertaining in my new place. Which is the reason I've been away (yes, I know, *again*) trying to get everything organized and clean and ... fabulous. Well, not *everything* is perfect, but I did a good job trying. The suede bench in the entryway. The couch in its proper place, flanked by two black torchieres, facing the fireplace. A cleared off coffee table. A brilliantly lit china hutch dazzling with the many crystal facets within. A decorated dining table (harvest gourds, flowers and cinnamon sticks) with a side of Halloween and, yes, there were candy treat bags.

And the best part: the two most treasured people in my life: M. and John. I started cooking at 9 - in the morning! Made an Italian lamb dish with red wine, garlic, onions, mushrooms and fresh rosemary, but forgot to add the parmesan cheese and parsley at the end. So, not so Italian. There were cranberry biscuits and cranberry/raspberry cocktail to start. Then the lamb dish was served in these adorable covered ramekins. Also served purple yams with a raw sugar and butter sauce and daikon radish with an Italian seasoning and butter sauce. Of course, the obligatory cranberry sauce. And sweet pickles (because I had a craving). Lots of red wine. Then, to end, Earl Grey tea and more cranberry biscuits.

If I didn't have enough troubles already with the Gods of Fire, there were other obstacles. The microwave stopped working (I think it's a localized fuse problem because it had better not be busted already) and the baking pan was too large for my oven. [Bright idea: can we do this on the barbecue next year?]

Anyway, when I walked M. to the corner, I promised (yes, I did) to take serious pain killers. So, I'm off to keep my promise and crawl into bed. I hope not to be up before the noonday sun.

Exhausted but serene hugs,
H.
